In coordination with the International Center for Excellence in EFT Training and incollaboration with Denver Family Institute, “Excellence, Integrity, Service” This externship is recommended to all professionals who counsel couples. The four-day externship includes observation of live interviews, theory and clinical techniques, skill training exercises, and supervision in specific areas. Participants learn to see marital distress from an attachment perspective, help partners reprocess the emotional responses that maintain marital distress, shape new interactions and bonding events, and overcome therapeutic impasses. Dr Mark Kaupp is an
adjunct professor at both Alliant International University (AIU)and San
Diego State University (SDSU) in their Master's and Doctorate programs
and is in private practice located in the heart of Mission Valley in
San Diego, CA. He sees clients on an individual, relationship, and
family basis. His primary focus is Couples Therapy and aims to create
greater levels of trust, safety and stronger emotional bonds through
the use of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). Further issues addressed range from relational conflicts, work concerns, and family difficulties to depression, grief, stress, anger, anxiety and Addictions. He works with all ages, ethnic and cultural backgrounds and additionally is a AAMFT Approved Supervisor, Certified EFT Therapist and EFT Supervisor. Working in the university and private practice keeps his skills fresh and up to date on the current research. He teaches subjects in Couple Therapy, Sex Therapy, MFT Techniques and Supervision at both the Master's and Doctoral levels. Dr.
Lisa Palmer-Olsen is
a founder and co-director of the San Diego Center for Emotionally
Focused Therapy, and a practicing family counselor for 12 years. Dr.
Palmer-Olsen is Certified in Emotionally Focused Therapy as a
Therapist, Supervision and Training. She received her training in EFT
directly from Dr. Susan Johnson. Dr. Palmer-Olsen continues to work
closely with Dr. Johnson researching and developing research effect
methodologies for training therapists in EFT model. Dr. Palmer-Olsen
and Dr. Scott Woolley have jointly developed the current structure of
training and supervising therapists to become proficient in Emotionally
Focused Therapy. Jim Thomas brings a
diverse clinical & training
background to his work as EFT Trainer. Director
Emeritus, Denver Family Institute,
Jim grew up professionally working with at-risk youth and multi-problem
families at the Denver Children’s Home and Tennyson Center for Youth. His clinical background
includes work with
addictions, trauma, and toxic shame.
He
consults with schools, mental health centers, and community agencies. Jim’s specialties include
working with
couples on the brink, tackling shame, and deepening the reach in Stage
2 of EFT
