Certificate Program
In the Treatment of Post-Combat Disorders
| How Does It Work? |
Blended
Learning: The
Certificate Program is offered in a “blended” format which combines the convenience of web-based learning with the necessary real-time interaction with experienced instructors.
Courses: : Courses are available on a wide range of topics, organized into four basic tracks, (see below). A Course always includes Web Lectures and also entitles participants to join in Web Briefings, Phone Call-Ins, and Web Question-Posts. Four courses, one from each track, are required for Certification.
Web Lectures: Most of the content, the foundational information, is presented as a series of engaging mini-slide shows, including the Instructor's voice. These are available at any time, and also provide CE Hours for licensed psychologists, MFTs, or LCSWs.
|
Interaction: We provide three different formats for accessing and interacting with experts in different aspects of Post-Combat Disorders
(1) Web Briefings - Scheduled, 90-minute sessions with two 30-minute presentations on current topics and 30-minutes of immediate Q&A>
(2) Phone Call-Ins - Scheduled, 60-minute sessions completely devoted to Q&A with experts, over the telephone
(3) Web Q-Posts - This is for situations in which a fast, almost real-time reply from an expert is alright; questions can be posted via voice or text.
Classroom Option: Some courses are
also offered classroom-style on one of Alliant's six campuses throughout the state of California. Please see the "CE calendar" or "CE Locations." for additional information.

Program Tracks |
Track
One: Military Culture for
Clinicians
Having
some
understanding of military culture is essential in order to gain
credibility with veterans. Military values and the influence of
military training will be explored, related to trauma, recovery, and
re-integration.
Track
Two: Combat-Related Trauma and PTSD
It
is important to distinguish between combat stress,
PTSD and sub-clinical presentations. Practical strategies will be
described for treating PTSD through empirically validated
psychotherapies focusing on processing traumatic experiences, reducing
nightmares, affect management, and pharmacology.
|
Track
Three: Traumatic Brain Injury and Post-Concussive
Syndromes
TBI
is being called the signature injury of the
Iran/Afghanistan war. Training will focus on the disability flowing
from TBI to enable better treatment decisions and proper referrals.
Track
Four: Legal and Ethical Issues in Military Health
Care
This
track covers relevant legislation and mandates, as
well as introducing the Military Health system, TriCare, and its
military healthcare regional administrators.
