The Vigorous, Empowering, Compassionate and Pioneering Cognitive Approach of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy

Workshop Description:

In this workshop students will learn the history and development, main aspects, holistic nature, techniques, methods, philosophy and application of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT). They will view live demonstrations, and learn the main and pivotal points of REBT therapy sessions. There will be opportunities for self-reflection, and there will be exercises carried out by students in pairs and small groups, giving them the direct experience of experiencing the modality first-hand and of guiding another person through it.

REBT’s contributions to theories which emerged in the years following its appearance and presence in psychology, its current place and contribution to the field of psychology, and its humanistic component will be explored. REBT’s application to various forms of emotional suffering which clients present, including PTSD, depression, anxiety, addiction, will be described. It’s effectiveness as individual, group, short term and long term therapy will be discussed. Main similarities and differences between REBT and CBT, and between REBT and various forms of Buddhism and Mindfulness, will also be looked at. Fallacies and myths about REBT will be dispelled, and its multimodal nature will be described. Rarely seen video of the late great Albert Ellis PhD will be shown. On completion of this course, diligent students will have a substantial knowledge of REBT, its benefits, and of its tools for application to their own lives, to others in their lives, and for those who intend to be therapists: tools for applying with clients they will work with.
