Seeking safety is an integrative,client-centered, and research supported treatment for co-concurring trauma, and substance abuse.  Its goals are to help clients attain physical and emotional safety, gain emotional safety, gain emotional regulation skills, and restore a sense of meaning and empowerment. Research consistently shows that dually diagnosed clients have worse treatment outcomes; it also suggest that treating substance abuse and trauma disorders simultaneously is more effective than treating them separately.  Seeking Safety offers a way to address both of these challenging disorders at the same time.  Seeking Safety can be practiced individual and group formats in a variety of clinical settings.  This workshop will focus on learning basic components of Seeking Safety as well as ways to apply it in your practice.

Masha Brown, PsyD Is a Psychologist who works with adults and young adults.  Her approach is warm, authentic, collaborative, strength-focused, and client-centered.  Dr. Brown creates a space conducive for healing by tailoring her therapeutic techniques to suit unique needs for each person.  She is experienced with Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, interpersonal, Dialectic Behavioral, and multicultural therapeutic approaches.  Her experience includes working with anxiety disorders, addictions, trauma, PTSD, depression, and life transition. Before joining IAP, Dr. Brown worked at the UCSF Faculty and Staff Assistance Program.  In the past, Dr. Brown worked at UCSF Trauma Recovery Center, Santa Rose VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, and AIDS Health Project.  She completed her education at UC Berkeley and the Wright Institute.
