This web lecture will review statistics and epidemiology of TBI, basic classification systems for determining severity, and the typical continuum of care. There will be emphasis on understanding the real world or practical implications of common TBI symptoms to assist the clinician in developing an appropriate treatment plan. General understanding of the physical and musculoskeletal symptoms of TBI to facilitate interaction with and referral to other medical providers will be covered as well.

Claude S. Munday, PhD, has been in private practice in clinical psychology and neuropsychology since 1981, with a specialization in brain injuries and physical disabilities.

Dr Munday has also been a consultant to the Committee of Bar Examiners for the State of California, Chief of Psychology for NeuroCare, and a Psychological consultant to the Rehabilitation Unit at St Francis Hospital in San Francisco. He is a past Director and President of the Brain Injury Association of California and a Director of the California Society for Industrial Medicine and Surgery.

Traumatic brain injury is being called the signature injury of the Iraq/Afghanistan conflict. Some estimates give the incidence as high as 18% in those suffering injury. The goal of this course is to give a foundation for better understanding the disability flowing from TBI to enable better treatment decisions and proper referrals when appropriate.
